Experience
After high school I entered the United States Marine Corps. In the almost five years I was a marine I was stationed overseas. I have traveled to over 15 countries. Throughout my travels I have gained an interest in learning about different cultures. I am currently completing my Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) certificate. I learned lots in the corps and enjoy sharing stories that relate to lesson plans. In my undergraduate program I was a writing tutor. I have been a tutor for over 10 years. In my tutoring sessions I like to create a focus on the student and their goal. I believe it is important to have a strong rapport with the student for them to be successful. This helps the student feel relaxed and ready to learn. I have tutored coworkers, high school students, college students and ESL. I enjoy helping students understand topics that are difficult for them to comprehend. I use personal experiences and current events to keep my lessons interesting. I understand that not all students learn the same, so I use different learning strategies with each student based on their learning capability.
